    Leah VanWey

    Dean of the Faculty, Professor of Environment and Society and Sociology

    Leah VanWey was named Dean of the Faculty in 2022.  A professor of environment and society, and sociology, VanWey came to Brown in 2008. Her research has focused on the interactions between demographic, social, and environmental change in Brazil. Before her appointment as dean of the School of Professional Studies in 2019, she served in a range of academic leadership positions, including associate provost for academic space, senior deputy director for research at the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society, and associate director of the University’s Population Studies and Training Center
